  • Travel insurance is no longer required for Bhutan visa applications

  • Guests may choose whether or not to obtain travel insurance

  • We can assist in arranging coverage through a Bhutanese insurance provider

  • Insurance costs typically range from USD 10–40, depending on duration and coverage

  • Guests may alternatively purchase travel insurance independently in their home country

  • A licensed local guide ensures safety, context, and informed travel throughout Bhutan

  • A guide is mandatory for all journeys or treks beyond Thimphu and Paro

  • Guides are required for visitors entering Bhutan via land borders when traveling beyond border towns

  • Route permits are no longer required, provided travel is accompanied by a guide certified by the Department of Tourism

  • Any amount of USD 9,999 or more must be declared to customs at the point of entry or exit

  • The use of drones is prohibited in Bhutan under a government ban introduced in 2015.

  • For groups of one or two guests:

    • Guides are typically tipped USD 10 per person per day

    • Drivers are typically tipped USD 5 per person per day

  • For groups of three or more guests:

  • Tips are usually provided as a single payment on the final day of the journey
