Jomolhari Loop Trek
12 Days
Overview
The Jomolhari Trek begins in Paro with the highest camp located at an altitude of 13,448ft (4,100m). Along this route, trekkers are treated to unparalleled views of Jomolhari’s twin peaks, as well as its neighboring mountains Jichu Drake and Tsheringang (the only views to rival this may be from a Druk Air flight!). The trek ascends to Lingzhi (16,236ft/4,950m) and ends near Thimphu. The difficulty level is moderate to challenging.
Typically, you will spend one or two days at Jangothang to acclimatize and fully absorb the magnificent views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drakye. Several half-day hikes from here offer additional breathtaking viewpoints. For those seeking an extra adventure, the trek continues from Jangothang to Lingzhi, with brilliant views of Jomolhari, Jichu Drakye, and Tserim Kang along the way.
This remote region offers exceptional beauty, as the trail crosses a large glacial valley, passing several moraines and ascending a windy pass to reach Chha Shi Thang (13,153ft/4,010m). From here, you can proceed to the base camp of Jichu Drakye. On the next day, trekkers face an arduous crossing of Yeli La (16,236ft/4,950m) before descending to Shodu. Afterward, the route ascends to Barshong, then gradually descends over the next two days through Dolom Kencho to the roadhead at Dodena, opposite the legendary bridge to Cheri Gompa.
